For Industry

Links between MIMM and the multimedia professions

Staff and students of the Institute for Interactive Media & Learning (IML) have a longstanding relationship the Australian Interactive Media Industry Association (AIMIA).

"Founded in 1992, AIMIA is the peak national industry body representing the Interactive Media and Digital Content sectors in Australia."

Members are regularly invited to assess student projects as well as advise on the strategic direction of the course. The Institute's membership to AIMIA provides students and graduates with a sense that they have a stake in the future direction of the industry.

The quality of students and graduates produced by the graduate courses in interactive multimedia have helped forge a strong reputation within the industry. The courses aim to cultivate multimedia professionals who will innovate, respond to identified needs and manage change within a fast-moving industry. Students' work has been consistently recognised in the annual AIMIA Awards.

Teaching staff are industry practitioners and active researchers who promote rigorous, reflective and responsible professional practice.

Interested in recruiting interns?

If you are an organisation or recruitment agency interested in having our students work for you, please contact Dr Linda Leung to discuss:

  • the kind of employee you are seeking
  • job descriptions and duty statements
  • roles, responsibilities and expectations.

In addition to their interactive multimedia studies, students are encouraged to undertake an internship as a means to gain valuable industry experience. The internship is part of a separate work-based learning program in which students are awarded a Diploma of Information Technology Professional Practice (DipITPP) upon completion. This means that students will be required to study and reflect on what they are learning about industry practices as they are working throughout their internship.

Employers should consider the graduate attributes of the course before recruiting interns or graduates. These are qualities that our students strive for in their studies. Employers can expect graduates to possess all of the attributes by the time they have completed their degrees. An indication of the kind of multimedia professional produced by the courses can be seen in the graduate profiles.

Recruiters and employers are also encouraged to attend annual showcase to meet students and experience their work.
