How do I choose my electives?
Choosing electives can be a daunting task. Students may choose subjects from any of the Faculties within the University, as long as the subject area is related in some way to the underlying issues and themes of the Interactive Multimedia courses. You should talk to the Program Leader and consult the UTS Handbook before enrolling in electives. When choosing your electives, we suggest that you consider your:
- skills and experience levels,
- interests,
- learning goals, and
- career objectives.
Try to enrol in electives as early as possible, as many classes fill up quickly. Remember that MIMM students can only enrol in postgraduate subjects. While most subjects in the handbook are clearly marked as undergraduate or postgraduate, if you are in any doubt please contact the relevant faculty direct.
In general, elective choices MUST be approved by the faculty offering the subject. Faculties offering electives for the MIMM program have different procedures. They usually consider:
- the appropriateness of the subject to the MIMM program;
- whether you have the necessary prerequisite knowledge; and
- availability of places.
If you are uncertain about the appropriateness of a subject, you should contact the relevant Faculty representative, or the MIMM Program Leader. You are advised to choose your electives from a group of related subjects and to use your choices to build upon current skills and to further your knowledge of a particular area.
At all stages of the course we can help you to develop an appropriate and coherent program of study. Please seek advice from the relevant faculties and/or from the MIMM Program leader before selecting your electives.
